    Dear Colleague

Here: http://www.meningitis.org/assets/x/52217 is a link to Meningitis and Septicaemia: What Happens Next? for your information. This resource, produced by Meningitis Research Foundation, is intended for people who are living with the after effects of meningitis and septicaemia, and their families.

The information within the booklet is based on published articles as well as consultation with doctors, nurses and other health professionals who look after people who have had a form of these diseases. The Foundation’s helpline and membership staff work closely with people who have after effects from meningitis and septicaemia, and their carers. People who call our helpline frequently say they would like more information about the nature of sequelae and their origins. They have little information about typical patterns of recovery, and do not realise that it is possible to seek help for persistent psychological and emotional problems as well as physical after effects.

As a result, Meningitis Research Foundation has also has a new online resource available at: http://issuu.com/meningitisresearch/docs/meningitis_your_guide_irish that will help improve the lives of hundreds of young meningitis survivors in Ireland. Your Guide: Recovering from childhood bacterial meningitis and septicaemia, provides essential information and advice about meningitis and septicaemia in children and young people. It includes sections on recovery, follow-up care and potential after-effects. The resource covers a range of physical, behavioural and emotional after effects, and gives details of organisations that can provide help and support on specific after effects of meningitis and septicaemia.

Please pass our Freefone Helpline 1800 41 33 44 – onto anyone who requires help, support or further information about meningitis and septicaemia. I have also attached a copy of our Am I at Risk? leaflet which you might find useful. Hard copies of this publication are available to order.

I hope you can pass this information onto anyone who you feel it will be useful for and please feel free to get in touch if you require any additional information or resources.

    Kind Regards,

    Caroline.
