Hi all, The HIQA IPC standards are almost complete. A definition of an IPCN is required and its quite difficult to find a succinct one!! the definition used in the 2012 PPS was suggested. see below
IPCN=nurse with specialized training in infection control/hospital hygiene and usually responsible for infection control/hospital hygiene tasks such as training of hospital employees in infection control, elaboration and implementation of infection control procedures, management (implementation, follow-up, evaluation) of an infection control work plan and projects, audits and evaluation of performance, procedures for disinfection of medical devices.
I’m not sure I like it! The definition will require referencing so perhaps if we could come up with one and then the IPCI could be referenced in the document. Can anyone come up with a definition that is fitting for such a wondrous nurse as is ourselves!!
