Hello all
In hospitals that are fit-testing, what do you advise staff who have beards and CANNOT be fit-tested?
Are they removed from the area? Recommended not to work with patients with COVID? Cannot intubate or extubate patients? etc.
Please can you advise.

“Hi Lenora, I’m also looking for a procedure for drain cleaning. Did you have any luck? I’ve spoken to Paz Aranega (Water systems microbiologist – PHE) and she explained that a variety of treatments have claimed to reduce biofilm in drainage systems. However, they do not have validation in more general use, once the…[Read more]

Please respond to Claire directly if company names used.
I am trying to source hand hygiene stands for our Hospital Foyer, our space is limited.
Have you any idea where I could source stands?
Our ABHR suppliers do not supply such stands.
Thank you.

Hi Maureen
We only treat bronchoscopy procedures as AGP and take additional precautions.
We are fortunate that we have four new endoscopy suites with good space and 15 air changes per hour so this helps with staff anxieties.
In relation to testing we only complete a COVID Swab test on patients having a bronchoscopy. We do complete a COVID…[Read more]

Hi All,
I have a query re OGD procedures;
Are any endoscopy units testing their OGD patients for covid-19 prior to their OGD and are endoscopy units considering OGDs as aerosol generating procedures and selecting PPE accordingly, i.e FFP masks.
The guidance is a little contradictory in that OGDs are not definitively recognised as AGPs but a p…[Read more]

Hello Emer
We are doing the same. Do you have 2 metres between your beds?
While most of our rooms are single we do have some double and triple rooms that share one bathroom. Key note is Risk Assessment. All our patients have a COVID Assessment Questionnaire completed, all patients having GAs have the COVID Swab Test 2-5 days before admission a…[Read more]

Hello IPCIreland members
Can you please advise if any of your administration staff in clinical areas (where there is no perspex screen) wear face visors instead of masks?
We are having problems with masks especially during phone-calls.

Lenora Leonard replied to the topic Space between beds in the forum Environment, Equipment & Products 4 years, 7 months ago
Hi Rafaela
You should recommend bed space of 3.7 x 3.6 for multi bed rooms (Irish guidelines advise max 3 beds in a multi-bed room but UK say 4 beds). By the sounds of your email, I don’t think you are planning a new ward so I would advise 2 metres distance from chair beside next bed to centre of other bed. It’s not just about bed to bed s…[Read more]

Dear all,
Hope you’re keeping well.
I have a question: about the distance between beds in a multi occupancy room, SARI recommends a minimum floor space of 19m2 around each bed. HBN-04 guidance, in the other hand, defines a bed space of 3.7 x 3.6m… Having in mind old buildings, day care units, oncology, how are you managing the bed spaces for…[Read more]
