Another topic where sharing is caring. If you need a policy just ask, someone will probably already have it done. Also don’t forget we are representing on a number of national working groups and feedback is always required from the organisation.

Good morning Noeleen
Thank you for your reply. This is a very good suggestion for the Education lead which I’ll pass on. Natalia & I try to keep SHARP more of a social Newsletter and to improve networking among colleagues.
Have a good day.

Due to the increase in new nursing homes and the difficulties of compliancy from a HIQA perspective regarding infection control, perhaps an educational programme would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Tracy
You replied to my query under “Latest Activity” which does not seem to link back to the specific discussion forum. But it does work the other way around i.e. reply in the discussion forum and it links back to “Latest Activity”.

Thanks Ladies (Emer & Tracy)
I hear Limerick Regional made changes to their surveillance testing since yesterday 16th May 2022 for scheduled patients. We are in the process of reviewing our COVID measures also, in particular surveillance testing. Anyone know when the next AMRIC Situational Webinar is on or have any idea when the Acute COVID g…[Read more]

Hi Tracy,
WGH is considering stopping routine asymptomatic surveillance testing in scheduled and unscheduled admissions. We are getting so many patients testing positive with high CT values and none have turned out to have active infection but most likely post infection. The patients state they had positive antigen tests in the last few weeks…[Read more]

Hi Again,
a new module on management of blood spills has just been launched on HSE land and it follows the same advice as the poster and draft guidelines.
My understanding was that a blood spill should be disinfected before removal, as disinfection aims to reduce the number of microorganisms to a safe level (re BBVs)
regards,
Helen

Good morning Alison & Helen
To reemphasize Helen’s point about the new draft NCEC National Standards for Infection and Prevention Control (IPC)2022 Guidelines, I know it’s big document but it is important to review and have our say. I sit on this group representing the acute sector and Margaruite O’Connor (our secretary) is currently looking…[Read more]

Hi Alison,
we got a delivery of hand Hygiene posters from RESIST last week and I hadn’t realised that the “management of blood spill” poster was at the back.
I would agree with you that the poster does not recommend the spillage is first disinfected with a hypochlorite. We teach Hypochlorite granules for small spills. For larger spills we…[Read more]

Happy new year everyone. I hope you enjoyed your break.
In relation to masks I have two questions:
1. Are you advising the wearing of FFP2 masks to be worn for the care of ALL patients both inpatients and outpatients?
2. As outlined in section 5.1.4 under Clinical areas page 9 of PPE HSE recommendations updated 29.12.2021, there is some…[Read more]

That is interesting Tracy. Our policy is to isolate using Contact Precautions even if deemed clear i.e. 3 previous negatives until the admission swab is negative. I have a new situation whereby a patient with a history of MRSA (has 3 negatives) has to attend theatre on a monthly basis and stay overnight and it causing problems.

At SSC we give the advice to isolate using contact precautions unless patient had a negative swab at pre-assessment within 7 days of admission.

Hello all
Can you tell me if you clear a previously positive patient with MRSA, after 3 negative screens taken at least 48 hours apart and if readmitted DO NOT isolate again OR do you isolate on readmission until a negative screen returns?
