Reply from Emer:
Hi lenora,We don’t get written consent. Verbally consent is all that’s required. We have had patients who have refused. In that situation we try and get a swab of faeces.
It has never come up in WGH re a Male nurse v a female nurse as an issue.
Regards

Hi all
When taking rectal swabs for CPE/VRE screening do you
(1) get verbal or written consent prior to taking the swab?
(2) is there any reason that a male staff member cannot take a rectal swab from a female patient?
Your views would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rafaela

Dear all,
Hope you are well.
<span style=”text-indent: -18pt;”>I was wondering what you are implementing in your hospitals regards patients coming for day procedures, outpatient appointments, phlebotomy etc who are not wearing a mask and/or wearing their own mask. </span>
Are you advising universal usage for masks? In case of patients wearing…[Read more]

Thank you Ann for the enclosed.
It is indeed multifactorial. There is more much literature to read and opinions to listen to, it can be overwhelming.

Hi All
I hope everyone is staying safe.
I am uploading some literature reviews just published by NHS Scotland and Oxford University on evidence of effectiveness of fluid resistant surgical masks versus respirators – and a couple of posters that i hope will assist you in relaying staff fears.
As is always the case, nothing is simple and…[Read more]

Hello Edith
Did you have any luck getting the PDF of the Standard Precautions Poster?
Do you know who was responsible for designing and printing it?
Kind regards
