Hi lenora,

We don’t get written consent. Verbally consent is all that’s required. We have had patients who have refused. In that situation we try and get a swab of faeces.

It has never come up in WGH re a Male nurse v a female nurse as an issue.

Hi all

When taking rectal swabs for CPE/VRE screening do you

(1) get verbal or written consent prior to taking the swab?

(2) is there any reason that a male staff member cannot take a rectal swab from a female patient?

Your views would be greatly appreciated.

Universal mask usage is for staff only.
