Hi Paru,
with advice from our estates dept, who lead out on waste issues, we also triple rinse the empty medicine bottles, remove all addressograph details etc, and dispose of as glass waste- the same as Caroline above-

Hi Fiona, Eithne & Alsion,
I would agree that we need to seek alternatives from Irish suppliers and after recent HIQA inspections, there has been increased queries in relation to ‘safe/ enclosed’ PPE dispensers- so as to prevent access by others.
This may cause many a predictament, but I think there should be more options and solutions out there…[Read more]

There is a company that will make holders to your own requirements/ specifications. They exhibited at our conference 2-3yrs ago in City West. I’ve drawn a blank on their name but will try and find it out for you

Thank you Alison and Fiona for your replies. Yes, it is a challenge. We do try to ascertain if the patient has been in another hospital prior to the endoscopy procedure and if yes, then schedule last on list. I think this is an area that will be nearly impossible to monitor in the acute sector .
Here in STMH all patients are contacted by phone pre endoscopy so the question can be asked however this will not be the case elsewhere. I know that in the event that we have any known infective case the room will be decontaminated . I think we must…[Read more] -

Is there any difference in the advice given in order to clean up a large blood spillage or a small blood spots or drops on difficult to clean areas ie that a dilution of 10,000 ppm of a sodium hypochlorite is required.
