Hello Mary Clare,
When you say ward staff do you mean HCA or nurses?
We have the same problem Terry but hoping to tie in with our service contract.

Hello,
Does anyone use BPWP that require the detergent to be replenished externally to the machine such as Stanbridge? If so who is responsible for this in your facility? In our new unit, the responsibility of who replenishes the detergent drum is causing a problem …
Thanks,

Hello Helen
Several years ago we changed our ABHR but only put alcohol foams in non-clinical areas i.e. entrances and main atrium of hospital.
The reason for this was at the time it was thought more foam was required for hand coverage and therefore hands took longer to dry. I do know now that several hospitals have moved to alcohol foams.…[Read more]

Hello Edith
I would always recommend putting a plaster or small dressing over the venepuncture site. You are breaking the skin and there is a risk of bleeding or infection if the open site gets dirty.

Hello Fiona
We do not recommend the use of fans in clinical areas in our hospital as fans are considered an IPC risk. Dust is attracted to the fan blades and then when the fan is turned on it disperses this dust.
Also the use of fans creates a current and circulates dust and microorganisms.
If a fan must be used I would recommend cleaning…[Read more]

Hi All,
An interesting query I was asked recently so would appreciate your assistance. Does anyone know of a company that specialises in cleaning and disinfection of the environment in the event of a potential bio terrorism threat using e.g. Category A B or C agents?
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Lenora,
Some of our wards put wall mounted sharps bins in their isolation rooms but we got most of them removed and are and advising wards against them. The standard Patron sharps bin is not a safety bin and therefore should not be left in a patient area where there is no constant presence of A HCW, as a confused patient or visitor (child etc)…[Read more] -

Thank you to all who responded to my query. So far all the feedback I have received is NOT to have wall-mounted sharps bins in every patient room but to use the small mobile sharps container & tray.
Kind regards
