Hi
From a dental perspective, we modified the Point of Care risk assessment to suit dental – contact with bodily fluids and aerosols almost all of the time. At the bottom of the document, we put in the following statement as it is incorporated in the National Guideline for Infection Prevention and Control in HSE Dental and Orthodontic Services .
3. Healthcare workers religious beliefs and cultural practices can be considered in addition to adherence with IPC; however these are secondary to IPC requirements. (Page 24 – Key compliance points for SOP 3 Personal Responsibilities of Staff) I am happy to share our modified version by email as I dont think I can attach documents to this message. Years ago we introduced surgical hijabs for our day theatre and CSSD staff. Bare below the elbow is a bit more tricky as many of our students are required to cover their forearms – but the sentence above helps – they can wear a top underneath the scrub with long sleeves, provided they bare the wrist 10cm above the elbow which I understand is the Irish guidance. Hope this helps.
